How long have you been involved in Scouts? 
About six years now, it still as much fun as the day I started!

Were you a Youth Member?
No, I wanted to but we were just too busy, I am lucky I am able to do it now.

What prompted you to train as a Cub Scout Leader?
I saw how much fun my Son was having at Cubs and I knew that the Leaders alway like to have help and I saw it as a way to spend some time with my son so I put my hand up.

How long did it take?
Well it was only the occasional weekend training and the day to day stuff you do to teach and have fun with the Cub Scouts that all goes to the training folder. I did it over about two years and I have been lucky enough to pick up Adventurous Activity training in Canoeing, a passion of mine since boyhood so I am able to pursue extra interests as I go along and thats a real bonus.

What do you think are the key benefits of being a Leader?
I really have grown as an individual and become more confident with the extra skills I am developing. The friendships and networking is great and they have helped me in my business as well.

What’s the best thing about being a Leader? 
I love it when we get to plan the camps and anticipate all the fun the Cubs are going to have, but the best thing is presenting a Cub with an achievement Badge and watching the pride on thier faces and the congratulations and admiration of the rest of the pack, I know that I am making a difference.

What sort of things do you do with your Cub Scouts?
Wow, where do I start? The Cubs spend a lot of time as agroup dciding what activitied they would like to di in accordance with what they want to achieve. At the moment we are all focusing on our World Conservation Badge so we have been on several camps with environment themes but we have been Sailing, rock climbing , bushwalking, had a Cycling camp all this term so far with heaps more to do yet!. I am lucky that this Pack has a great collective imagination and they keep thinking up more and more things that they want to try.

Recount one of your favourite Cub Scout experiences
Ther are too many! I think getting my certificate and taking my Promise in front of my family and my Cub Pack was one the greatest things because It was a really big deal for me. To have my Family supporting and being proud of me was really great and all the other faces of the Cub Scouts looking up at me and knowing that I was committed to them. It really made an impression on me and I take great pride in it. Its also great to be recognised in my community as someone who is making a contribution, I get a real kick when I hear one of My Cubs run up to me in the supermarket and call out "Baloo!"
